The traditional metals in Mokume Gane jewelry is the soft metals - gold, copper, silver and various alloys of these metals. The beautiful black shakudo (gold 4 — 7% and copper) and the bright orange shibuichi (silver and copper). By heating the metals forming a liquid phase without melting. The up to 20 layers of different metals melts into a block of thin layers of different colored metal. To get a successful lamination requires a qualified and experienced blacksmith. Heating in a oven at approx. 800 degrees C it is possible to laminate other metals, various gold alloys, palladium, bronze and brass.
